Who is exempt from DIRT?

Deposit interest retention tax is currently charged at 37% for 2018 and will be 35% for 2018

You can receive interest without paying DIRT (DIRT-free account) in certain conditions. To do this, you must complete a declaration form stating that you, your spouse or civil partner are:

  1. 65 years of age or over when making the declaration. Your total income for the year, including the interest, must be below the annual exemption limit.
  2. permanently incapacitated due to a physical or mental disability.

DIRT is not charged on interest from the accounts of:

  1. individuals who meet all of the following conditions:
    1. are not resident in Ireland
    2. have completed a non-resident declaration
    3. do not pay tax in Ireland
    4. do not have a joint account with an Irish resident.
  2. companies that pay Corporation Tax
  3. Revenue-approved pension schemes
  4. charities.
