When do you pay capital gains tax ?

If you make a capital gain in a tax year, you must pay CGT by the following dates:

a) in respect of gains made up to 30th November 2018, on or before 15th December 2018 and

b) in respect of gains made up between 1st December to 31st December on or before  31st January in the next tax year.

So for gains made in December 2017, the CGT is payable on the 31st January 2018.

If the payment dates are not met revenue may impose late intererst
