Start your own business

The Start Your Own Business scheme provides for relief from Income Tax for unemployed persons who start a new business. The scheme provides that a qualifying person does not have to pay income tax on the first €40,000 of profits over two years. They have to be unemployed for a period of at least 12 months prior to starting the business.

To qualify for this relief,

• The business must be set up before 31st December 2016
• It must be a new business and not a business that is bought or inherited
• It must not be set up as a company.
