Bike to work scheme

What bicycles and equipment are included in bike to work scheme?

New bicycles and pedelecs (electrically assisted bicycles which require some effort from the cyclist). The scheme does not cover:

  1. motorbikes, scooters or mopeds
  2. second-hand bicycles or equipment
  3. bicycle parts or associated equipment.

The following new safety equipment, if purchased with the bicycle, are also covered:

  1. cycle helmets
  2. bells and bulb horns
  3. lights, including dynamo packs
  4. mirrors and mudguards
  5. cycle clips and dress guards
  6. panniers, luggage carriers and straps
  7. locks and chains
  8. pumps, puncture repair kits, cycle tool kits and tyre sealant
  9. reflective clothing, white front reflectors and spoke reflectors.

The maximum value allowed is €1,000

You are only allowed to do this scheme once every five years. This applies even if the cost of the bicycle and safety equipment was less than €1,000.

The tax year in which the bicycle is provided counts as the first year. For example, if you used the scheme during any month in 2015, you can use the scheme again from 1 January 2020
