CAT Thresholds

The life-time group thresholds for receipts of gifts or inheritances are currently:

€

Group A – Daughters / Sons                               280,000

Group B – Other family members                        30,150

Group C – Persons not in above 2 groups           15,075

Under the recent “programme for a partnership government” published in May, the government stated that

“we will work with the Oireachtas to raise the Band A Capital Acquisitions Tax Threshold (including all gifts and inheritances from parents to their children) to €500,000”

So it may prudent to defer any gifts until the release of the 2017 Budget in October next to see if the Government do increase the thresholds.
