According to the 2015 annual report from Revenue, there was :

PAYE employee revenue checks       42,493             41,368

Other revenue checks                       419,098          396,000

Included in the above there was only 270 random revenue audits undertaken in 2015

The areas in which Revenue obtained the largest amounts from revenue audits were:

Construction                         29.9 million

Rent                                            21 million

Retailers                                  13.6million

Wholesalers                            12.2million

Doctors                                     7.8 million

Restaurants/take away’s      5.6 million
