Backdating pension contributions
Backdating pension contributions
Where you contribute to an employer pension plan or a PRSA or a personal pension, outside of payroll, after the end of the income tax year, but before the 31st October of the following year, you can backdate these contributions against the previous tax year.
For example, if you contribute to a pension (not through payroll) in say July 2016, you have the option of claiming tax relief for that payment against your 2015 taxable income. You can claim relief by completing a tax return for 2015 and submitting to Revenue.
However, you have to ensure you within the maximum revenue limits depending on your age.
