Tax bands for a married couple

If you are married couple assessed jointly, the default position is that your first €42,800 of taxable income is taxed at 20%, with the balance being taxed at 40%

If each of you has income in your own right, the first €42,800 standard rate band  may be increased by the lower of

a) €24,800 and

b) lowest of the two incomes

You have the option of amending your tax bands or credits during the year by going to www.revenue.ie and logging in through the myaccount service
