Claiming back DIRT

Deposit interest retention tax (DIRT)

DIRT is tax deducted of 41% on any deposit interest earned in a year.

If you, or your spouse or civil partner, are:

• aged 65 or over or
• are permanently incapacitated and
• your total income (including the Gross DIRT Income) is less than 18k as a single person or 36k for a married couple you can claim a repayment of DIRT paid by submitting
  • Form 54 Claims and
  • Certificates of Interest subject to DIRT to your Revenue Office

In addition, you can go back 4 years to 2012 to claim back any DIRT paid.
