Tax relief for rent payments

If you pay rent to a landlord for private rented accommodation and you were paying rent prior to 7th December 2010 up to now you are entitled to tax relief in respect of rent paid

Tax relief for rent payments may be claimed by completing a form Rent 1 or through PAYE anytime on www.revenue.ie.

For 2016, the relief for a single person under 55 can get relief of €80  (€400*20%) and for a married couple under 55 can get relief of €160 (€800*20%)

The rent relief is being phased out and will end in 2018
